The Gold and Red Favia (often marketed under names like the “Soul Eater” or “Dragon Soul” Favia) is a high-contrast masterpiece that looks like molten lava trapped in a stone. This morph typically features a rich, deep crimson or burgundy base with brilliant, metallic gold or “honey” colored centers. It is an encrusting brain coral that provides an intense warm-toned “pop” to your reef, making it a perfect companion to more common green or blue corals.
Coloration: Velvety deep red or maroon ridges with glowing gold, amber, or yellowish-orange “eyes.”
Size: 0.5-1 inch frag
Lighting: Low to Moderate (75–125 PAR; the gold centers are sensitive to high light and can “bleach” or turn white if the intensity is too high).
Water flow: Low to Medium (gentle flow is preferred to allow the fleshy polyps to expand fully; high flow can cause the tissue to tear against the skeleton).
eeding: Highly Recommended; like all Favias, they are active nocturnal predators. Feeding them finely chopped meaty foods or LPS pellets when their tentacles are out at night will lead to much faster growth.
Aggressiveness: Very Aggressive (possesses long “sweeper” tentacles that can reach out several inches at night; it will win most “coral wars”).
Care Level: Easy (very hardy and adaptable, making it a great “collector” piece for beginners).
