The Green and Blue Favia (often categorized under Favites or Favia) is a high-contrast “Brain Coral” that provides some of the most intricate patterns in an LPS aquarium. In this specific morph, the “walls” or ridges of the coral are typically a deep, metallic royal blue or slate, while the “eyes” (the centers) glow with a piercing neon or radioactive green. It is an encrusting coral that will eventually grow into a solid, multi-colored mound, making it an excellent choice for adding “bulk” and texture to the mid-to-lower sections of your reef.
Coloration: Deep indigo or cobalt blue ridges with vivid neon green centers; some “Ultra” versions may feature a third color, like a thin ring of yellow or white around the eye.
Size: 0.5–1 inch frag
Lighting: Low to Moderate (75–150 PAR; they are sensitive to high-intensity light which can cause their flesh to “shrink” or bleach).
Water flow: Low to Medium (enough to keep the “maze” valleys clean; stagnant water can lead to infections in the deep grooves).
Feeding: Highly Recommended; they are active predators at night. When the lights go out, they extend translucent tentacles to catch passing plankton or mysis shrimp.
Aggressiveness: Very Aggressive (they have long “sweeper” tentacles that can extend several inches at night to sting competing corals).
Care Level: Easy (extremely hardy and a great “first stony coral” for new hobbyists).
