Overview:
The Elegance Coral (Catalaphyllia jardinei) is one of the most stunning and “flowy” LPS corals in the marine world. While large specimens can be the size of a dinner plate, Small Elegance Corals (usually 2–4 inches) are highly sought after for nano reefs or as focal points in mid-sized tanks. They look like a cross between a sea anemone and a blooming flower, with long, fleshy tentacles that sway elegantly in the current.
Coloration: Typically a neon green or lime base with contrasting “painted” tips that can be bright pink, purple, or blue.
Growth Pattern: Mounding (fleshy polyps extend from a V-shaped or cone-shaped skeleton).
Lighting: Low to Moderate (PAR 80–150).
Water Flow: Low to Medium (Gentle, swaying flow is vital).
Feeding: Very “hungry”; needs weekly feedings of mysis or chopped seafood.
Aggressiveness: High (has potent stinging cells).
Care Level: Moderate.
