Ricordea yuma, or simply the Yuma Mushroom, is a standout species of corallimorph prized for its intricate, bead-like tentacles and incredible color diversity. Originating from the Indo-Pacific, Yumas are distinguished from their Atlantic cousins (Ricordea florida) by their larger size and the presence of tentacles covering the entire oral disc, including the area immediately surrounding the mouth. They are true showstoppers in a reef tank, often displaying wild, psychedelic color combinations. While they are slightly more sensitive to water quality and lighting changes than other mushrooms, their striking appearance makes them a rewarding challenge for any enthusiast.
Coloration: Teal base with a green center and bright orange bubbles
Size: 1–4 inch diameter (can grow much larger than R. florida)
Lighting: Low to moderate (sensitive to sudden increases in light; best placed in shaded or lower areas)
Water flow: Low to medium (gentle flow is necessary to prevent tissue damage)
Feeding: Primarily photosynthetic, but benefits from occasional target feeding of micro-plankton or specialized liquid coral foods
Aggressiveness: Peaceful
Care Level: Moderate (requires more stability than standard mushrooms)
