The Birdnest Coral (Seriatopora sp.) is one of the absolute best “gateway” corals for reefers transitioning into Small Polyp Stony (SPS) corals. Famous for its thin, interlocking, needle-sharp branches that form a dense “tangle” or nest, it offers incredible texture and motion under flow. It is renowned for its rapid growth rate, making it a very satisfying piece to watch develop from a tiny frag into a massive colony.
Coloration: Birdnest coral can range from hot pink and lime green to designer colorways featuring neon yellow bases with violet or cyan polyps. This frag is light blue and will be sold as a frag on a 0.5 – 1 inch frag plug.
Growth Pattern: Delicate, needle-like branching (grows in a tight, spherical “bush” or “nest”).
Lighting: Moderate to High (PAR 180–300).
Water Flow: Moderate to High (Needs strong, random current).
Feeding: Optional; relies mostly on light, but absorbs dissolved organic nutrients and fine particulate foods.
Aggressiveness: Peaceful (lacks stinging sweeper tentacles, but can shade out neighbors).
Care Level: Easy (for an SPS coral; very forgiving compared to Acropora).
