Overview:
The Jason Fox Burning Banana Stylocoeniella is a captivating encrusting coral prized for its vivid, glowing coloration and delicate velvet-like texture. Known affectionately as “Stylos,” this coral features tiny fuzzy polyps that create a distinctive soft appearance. Its striking electric yellow base with bright orange to red polyps makes it an eye-catching addition to reef tanks, perfect for adding neon splashes on vertical rock surfaces or concealing less attractive tank hardware.
Colorization:
This coral displays an electric “banana” yellow base contrasted beautifully by fiery orange to red polyps, giving it a glowing, high-contrast effect that stands out vividly in moderate lighting conditions.
Size:
Typically available as a frag plug ranging from 0.5 to 1 inch, making it ideal for encrusting and coverage in selective reef areas.
Lighting:
Prefers low to moderate lighting levels (75 to 150 PAR). It is sensitive to intense light “hot spots” and may bleach under high-intensity LEDs, so placement in diffuse lighting is recommended.
Water Flow:
Requires a medium water flow to keep its tiny polyps free from detritus but moderate enough to avoid tissue damage from overly strong currents.
Feeding:
Benefits from very fine particulate foods such as reef snow, rotifers, or liquid amino acids, as its small polyps cannot consume larger food items like mysis shrimp.
Aggressiveness:
This coral is peaceful with no stinging sweeper tentacles but is a fast encruster and may overgrow neighboring corals if given the space.
Care Level:
Easy to moderate care. The Burning Banana thrives and becomes hardy once settled but prefers stable and mature aquarium conditions for best health and coloration.
