Orange Montipora Cap

The Orange Montipora Cap (Montipora capricornis) is a timeless, classic SPS coral that serves as a cornerstone piece for both beginner and advanced reef keepers. Renowned for its rapid growth and striking structural forms, this coral develops large, swirling plates and layered cups that add dramatic depth and horizontal architecture to an aquascape.

Its tissue features a rich, glowing tangerine to bright rust-orange coloration, covered in fine, pale orange or white polyps that give the surface a velvet-like texture when fully expanded under medium lighting.

Coloration: Vibrant tangerine to deep rust-orange plating tissue, dotted with fine, contrasting pale orange or white polyps.

Growth Pattern: Plating / Scroll (builds broad, overlapping tiers, swirling cups, and spiraling plates that spread out horizontally). Sold as a frag on a 0.5 – 1 inch frag plug.

Lighting: Moderate to High (PAR 150–250).

Water Flow: Moderate to Strong (Turbulent, indirect sweeping current to deliver nutrients and keep detritus from settling in the cups).

Feeding: Photosynthetic; captures fine particulate organic matter, dissolved amino acids, and micro-plankton.

Aggressiveness: Peaceful (lacks long sweeper tentacles, though it will overgrow slower-moving, encrusting corals nearby).

Care Level: Easy (One of the hardiest, most forgiving SPS corals available in the hobby).
