The Chili Pepper Montipora (Montipora sp., often classified as a Montipora tuberculosa or Montipora spongodes variant) is a classic, high-contrast encrusting Small Polyp Stony (SPS) coral celebrated for its intense complementary colors. Revered by stony coral collectors for its fiery, Christmas-like aesthetic, this staple cultivar features a bright radioactive neon-green coenosteum (base tissue) covered in dense, bumpy tuberculate ridges and studded with contrasting fiery crimson-red to bright copper polyps.

Coloration: Electric neon-green, lime, or chartreuse base tissue, densely covered in fiery crimson-red, copper, or orange-red polyps.

Growth Pattern: Encrusting and Plating (forms a thick, smooth sheet-growing base mat that molds over rockwork before occasionally forming small plating ledges or low-profile nodular bumps as it matures). Sold as a frag on a 0.5 – 1 inch frag plug.

Lighting: Moderate to High (PAR 180–300).

Water Flow: Moderate to High (Strong, randomized multi-directional flow to maintain tissue health and drive rapid encrusting).

Feeding: Photosynthetic; extends fine micro-polyps continuously day and night to capture liquid amino acids, micro-plankton powders, and fine particulate SPS feeds.

Aggressiveness: Peaceful / Defenseless (lacks stinging sweeper tentacles; relies on rapid encrusting calcification, but easily stung or overgrown by aggressive LPS, softies, or encrusting chalices).

Care Level: Easy to Moderate (Exceptionally hardy for an SPS coral, making it a premier starter option for hobbyists seeking vibrant encrusting SPS).
