Nerite snails

While freshwater Nerites get plenty of love, their marine cousins are the unsung heroes of saltwater aquariums and intertidal rocky shores. Compact, armored, and tirelessly working, marine Nerites are phenomenal additions to any saltwater clean-up crew.

Key Highlights:

Algae Eradicators: Marine Nerites thrive on film algae, cyanobacteria, and diatoms. They’ll scale aquarium glass, live rock, and powerheads to clear out algae buildup without disturbing corals or invertebrates.

Hermit Crab Defense: Their low-profile, smooth, rounded shells make them notoriously hard for predatory hermit crabs to grab or flip over.

Breeding Behavior: Like freshwater species, marine Nerites lay tiny, ard, capsule-like white eggs on rocks and glass. In marine aquariums, these eggs occasionally hatch into planktonic larvae, though they rarely survive filter systems to reach adulthood.
