The Orange and Green Acan Echinata (Acanthastrea echinata) is an intensely pigmented, aggressive Large Polyp Stony (LPS) encrusting brain coral prized for its bold contrast and heavy, pillow-like corallites. A staple in high-end LPS collections, this cultivar features radioactive orange outer corallite rings that clash sharply against vibrant chartreuse or neon-green oral eyes and dark indigo/slate shared corallite walls.
Coloration: Vibrant fiery orange or tangerine outer corallite rings, surrounding radioactive chartreuse-green oral centers (eyes), set against deep blue, grey, or indigo shared skeletal walls.
Growth Pattern: Encrusting to Sub-massive (forms a dense, heavy calcium carbonate mat that rapidly coats rockwork or ceramic plugs before developing low, rounded mound structures). Sold as a frag on a 0.5 to 1 inch frag plug.
Lighting: Low to Moderate (PAR 75–125).
Water Flow: Low to Moderate (Gentle, indirect multi-directional flow to flush out organic debris from corallite valleys without irritating tissue).
Feeding: Active nocturnal feeder; extends short, clear feeder tentacles around each corallite eye at night to accept mysis shrimp, micro-pellets, amino acids, and fine particulate LPS powders.
Aggressiveness: Highly Aggressive (possesses potent, highly destructive sweeper tentacles that extend up to 1.5–2 inches at night to digest adjacent corals via mesenterial filaments).
