The Jason Fox Burning Banana Stylocoeniella is a stunning “encrusting” coral that has become a must-have for collectors who love high-contrast, glowing colors. Stylocoeniella (often called “Stylos” for short, though they are different from Stylophora) are unique because they possess very tiny, fuzzy polyps that give the coral a velvet-like texture. The “Burning Banana” morph is famous for its intense, vivid yellow base and its contrasting bright orange-to-red polyps. Because it is a low-profile encrusting coral, it is perfect for adding “splashes” of neon color to the vertical faces of your rockwork or for covering unattractive frag racks and overflow boxes.
Coloration: Electric “banana” yellow base with fiery orange or red polyps
Size: 0.5–1 inch frag plug
Lighting: Low to Moderate (75–150 PAR; it is quite sensitive to “hot spots” and can bleach if placed directly under high-intensity LEDs)
Water flow: Medium (needs enough flow to keep its tiny polyps from being smothered by detritus, but not so much that the tissue is blown back)
Feeding: Appreciates very fine particulate foods (like reef snow, rotifers, or liquid amino acids) as its polyps are too small for mysis shrimp
Aggressiveness: Peaceful (it has no sweepers, but it is a fast encruster that will eventually grow over neighboring corals if they are in its path)
Care Level: Easy to Moderate (very hardy once settled, but it prefers stable, mature tank conditions)
