The Green Digitata Montipora (Montipora digitata) is a timeless, high-energy Small Polyp Stony (SPS) coral celebrated for its bright coloration, rapid growth, and distinct finger-like branching structure. Often recommended as the premier “gateway SPS” for hobbyists transitioning into stony corals, this staple cultivar features a vivid emerald to forest-green coenosteum (tissue base) densely studded with fluffy, radioactive neon-green polyps and pale, glowing axial growth tips under actinic lighting.
Coloration: Bright emerald-green, jade, or lime base tissue, densely covered in glowing neon-green polyps, featuring lighter yellow-green or pale green axial growth tips.
Growth Pattern: Arborescent / Finger-Like Branching (forms a heavy encrusting base pad before extending upright, smooth, rounded finger-like branches). Sold as a frag on a 0.5 – 1 inch frag plug.
Lighting: Moderate to High (PAR 200–300).
Water Flow: Moderate to High (Strong, randomized multi-directional flow to flush out detritus between tight branches).
Feeding: Photosynthetic; extends fine micro-polyps continuously to capture liquid amino acids, micro-plankton powders, and fine particulate SPS foods.
Aggressiveness: Peaceful / Defenseless (lacks stinging sweeper tentacles; relies on rapid calcification to compete for space, but easily overgrown or stung by aggressive LPS, softies, or anemones).
Care Level: Easy to Moderate (One of the hardiest, most forgiving branching SPS corals available, highly tolerant of slight parameter fluctuations).
