King Midas Zoanthids are a quintessential “collector” coral, famous for their pure, solid gold coloration. Unlike many other zoanthids that feature complex patterns or multiple colors, the King Midas is prized for its clean, high-contrast look. These polyps are typically a brilliant, shimmering metallic yellow from the center all the way to the tips of the tentacles. When grouped in a colony, they create a stunning “carpet of gold” that provides a perfect color break between more common green and red corals.
Coloration: Solid, vibrant metallic gold/yellow across the entire polyp
Size: 1/2 inch to 1 inch frag (typically 2-4 polyps)
Lighting: Moderate (High light can make them look even brighter, but watch for bleaching)
Water flow: Medium (Consistent flow helps prevent algae from growing between the tight polyp clusters)
Feeding: Primarily photosynthetic; however, they respond well to amino acid dosing and micro-plankton
Aggressiveness: Peaceful (excellent for creating “zoa rocks” where multiple varieties grow together)
Care Level: Easy
