The Awesome Blossom Zoanthid is a legendary collector’s piece, prized for its intricate, multi-layered color pattern that genuinely looks like a miniature flower in full bloom. It is part of the “high-end” tier of zoas, known for its distinct three-ring coloration. Typically, it features a dark, moody center (the “mouth”), surrounded by a bright, starburst-style mid-ring (often pink or orange), and finished with a contrasting, dark-speckled outer ring and neon skirts.
Coloration: A dark purple or black “eye,” a vibrant hot-pink or neon-orange mid-section with white “freckles,” and long, bright green or yellow “eyelashes” (skirts).
Size: Small to Medium polyp (about the size of a pencil eraser; they tend to grow in tight, rounded clusters). Sold as 1-3 polyps on a 0.5 – 1 inch frag plug.
Lighting: Low to Moderate (50–100 PAR; they are sensitive to high-intensity light, which can cause the pink mid-section to fade or “melt”).
Water flow: Medium (enough to keep the polyps swaying slightly and prevent detritus from settling between the heads).
Feeding: Not strictly necessary, but they respond well to amino acids and very fine coral snow. Over-feeding can sometimes lead to nuisance algae growth around the polyps.
Aggressiveness: Peaceful (like most zoas, they can touch other zoanthids, making them perfect for “Zoa Gardens”).
Care Level: Intermediate (they are slightly more sensitive to parameter swings—specifically Alkalinity—than “starter” zoas like Green Implosions).
