Overview:
Clove Polyps, from the genus Clavularia, are soft coral known for their feathery, eight-pointed tentacles that create a dynamic, flower-like appearance in reef tanks. Unlike aggressive corals, they form manageable clumps connected by runners, making them a stunning and peaceful addition to marine aquariums.
Colorization:
Bases are typically tan or brown, with vibrant neon centers and feather-like fronds that come in striking colors such as neon green, bright orange, or pure white. Some morphs display a metallic “firework” effect, enhancing their visual appeal.
Size:
Each frag measures about 0.5 – 1 inches.
Lighting:
Thrives under low to moderate lighting conditions, between 75 to 150 PAR. Excessive light can cause the polyps to retract, so maintaining proper lighting encourages open, flowing tentacles.
Water Flow:
Requires low to medium water flow to gently sway the feathery tentacles, enhancing their natural movement without pushing them closed.
Feeding:
Primarily photosynthetic but benefits greatly from occasional dosing of phytoplankton or fine particulate coral foods, contributing to their health and vibrant coloration.
Aggressiveness:
Considered peaceful, these polyps do not sting but can gradually overgrow and shade out slower neighbors, so moderate spacing is recommended.
Care Level:
Beginner-friendly and very easy to maintain, making Clove Polyps an excellent choice for hobbyists seeking vibrant movement and color with minimal care requirements.
