Green Cabbage Leather coral (Sinularia dura) is a visually distinct soft coral known for its wavy, petal-like lobes that resemble the leaves of a cabbage or a head of lettuce.
Unlike many other leathers that feature long, flowing tentacles, the Cabbage Leather has a firm, rubbery texture and a low-profile growth habit. It is an exceptionally hardy species, making it a staple for beginners and a reliable filler for established reef tanks.
Its coloration typically ranges from a subtle mint green to a vibrant neon, often developing a beautiful fluorescent “sheen” under high-actinic lighting.
Coloration: Pale mint green to vibrant fluorescent green
Size: 2–3 inch frag (expands significantly when water-filled)
Lighting: Low to moderate (very adaptable to various lighting conditions)
Water flow: Medium to high (stronger flow helps it shed its waxy protective film)
Feeding: Primarily photosynthetic; absorbs dissolved organic nutrients from the water
Aggressiveness: Peaceful, but produces terpenes (chemical defense) that can inhibit the growth of nearby stony corals
Care Level: Easy
