The Green Acropora (Acropora sp., encompassing classic cultivars like the Green Slimer, Green Bali Shortcake, or Green Table) is a quintessential Small Polyp Stony (SPS) coral revered for its high-energy growth, vibrant electric coloration, and classic branching architecture. Considered the defining centerpiece of high-end SPS displays, this cultivar features a brilliant emerald, neon-lime, or chartreuse coenosteum (tissue base) studded with star-like polyps and tipped with glowing pale green, ice-blue, or yellow axial growth points.
Coloration: Electric neon-green, emerald, or chartreuse skeletal branches, highlighted by bright green to soft blue polyps axial tips.
Growth Pattern: Forms a solid encrusted base before sending up thick, upright staghorn branches. Sold as a frag on a 0.5 – 1 inch frag plug.
Lighting: High (PAR 250–400+).
Water Flow: High to Very High (Strong, randomized turbulent current to maintain tissue health and drive rapid calcification).
Feeding: Photosynthetic; extends fine micro-polyps day and night to absorb liquid amino acids, rotifers, micro-plankton powders, and fine particulate SPS feeds.
Aggressiveness: Peaceful / Defenseless (lacks stinging sweeper tentacles; relies on rapid calcification, but easily stung or dissolved by neighboring aggressive LPS or soft corals).
Care Level: Moderate to Advanced (Requires stable, mature reef chemistry, high PAR, and vigorous water movement to prevent tissue recession).
