The Clockwork Orange Zoanthid is a high-octane “designer” zoa that looks exactly like its name suggests—a mechanical explosion of neon citrus. It is famous for its intricate, multi-layered patterns: usually featuring a bright orange or gold “inner gear” surrounded by a darker ring, finished off with green or orange tentacles. This variety is highly sought after by collectors because it holds its vibrant color extremely well even under lower-intensity lighting, making it a reliable “pop” of color for any part of the reef.
Coloration: Vibrant orange or golden centers with a dark “ring” detail and green or orange “eyelash” tentacles
Size: 0.5–1 inch frag plug
Lighting: Low to Moderate (100–150 PAR; keep them in the lower half of the tank to maintain the deep orange saturation)
Water flow: Medium (enough to keep the polyps swaying slightly and prevent film algae from growing on the mat)
Feeding: Primarily photosynthetic; they respond very well to dissolved organics and amino acid dosing
Aggressiveness: Peaceful (a steady grower that will eventually form a tight, beautiful carpet over rockwork)
Care Level: Easy
