Gold Branching Hammer Coral (Fimbriaphyllia paraancora) is a stunning variation of the classic Hammer coral, prized for its shimmering metallic hues and distinct skeletal structure.
Unlike the “wall” variety, the branching hammer grows in a tree-like fashion, making it much easier to fragment and place within the rockwork. Its polyps feature anchor or hammer-shaped tips that glow brilliantly under actinic lighting.
The “Gold” morph is particularly sought after for its warm, honey-colored tentacles, which provide a beautiful contrast to the more common greens and purples found in most reef tanks.
Coloration: Metallic gold to mustard-yellow tentacles
Size: 1–2 inch single head (can form large, multi-headed colonies quickly)
Lighting: Moderate (prefers indirect lighting; too much intensity can cause bleaching)
Water flow: Medium (needs enough flow to keep tentacles swaying gently, but avoid direct, high-pressure flow)
Feeding: Benefits from weekly feedings of mysis shrimp or specialized LPS pellets to encourage faster head splitting
Aggressiveness: Peaceful but requires ample space
Care Level: Easy to Moderate
