The Green and Blue Platygyra (commonly known as a “Maze Coral” or “Brain Coral”) is a favorite for reefers who love intricate, geometric patterns. Unlike many corals that grow in clusters or branches, Platygyra forms a massive or encrusting colony with winding, interconnected ridges and valleys. The “Green and Blue” morph is particularly striking because the neon green usually illuminates the “valleys” (the polyp centers), while the ridges are a contrasting deep blue or steel grey, creating a fluorescent 3D labyrinth effect.
Coloration: Electric lime or neon green valleys with deep royal blue or slate grey ridges
Size: 0.5 – 1 inch frag
Lighting: Moderate (150–250 PAR; they are quite adaptable but their colors “crisp up” best under mid-range intensity)
Water flow: Medium (needs enough flow to prevent detritus from settling in its deep “maze” ridges, which can cause tissue recession)
Feeding: Highly recommended; they have surprisingly long feeding tentacles that emerge at night. They love finely chopped meaty foods or LPS pellets
Aggressiveness: Very Aggressive (they possess long “sweeper” tentacles that can reach out 2–4 inches to sting neighbors; give them plenty of space)
Care Level: Easy to Moderate (once settled, they are very hardy and can tolerate minor swings in water chemistry)
