Overview
The 3G Mummy Eye Chalice is a legendary Echinophyllia coral, cherished for its distinct encrusting growth and striking coloration. Known as a hall-of-fame “OG” chalice coral, it boasts a unique metallic forest green base punctuated by glowing neon orange or red corallite eyes. This coral grows primarily as a plating or encrusting form, bringing a textured and ghostly appeal to your reef tank, especially vivid under blue lighting.
Colorization
The coral exhibits a deep metallic forest green “skin” with raised, bright pumpkin-orange or neon red eyes that stand out dramatically, creating an almost eerie visual effect under aquarium lights.
Size
Available as a frag plug measuring between 0.5 to 1 inch, perfect for aquarists to introduce this spectacular coral to their collection.
Lighting
Thrives under low to moderate lighting between 80 to 150 PAR. Excessive intense light can cause the green coloration to fade or may induce bleaching, so balanced lighting is essential.
Water Flow
Requires low to medium water flow that ensures detritus removal from its plating surface while being gentle enough for its polyps to fully extend during the night.
Feeding
Highly recommended to feed weekly with mysis shrimp or specialized LPS pellets, as the 3G Mummy Eye Chalice exhibits a strong nocturnal feeding response that promotes faster growth.
Aggressiveness
Very aggressive due to long, nearly invisible sweeper tentacles capable of stinging neighboring corals several inches away, so careful placement is advised.
Care Level
Easy to moderate care is required. The coral is resilient once established but benefits from maintaining consistent magnesium levels to ensure robust skeletal density.
