The Lava Chalice is a high-contrast, “crustose” coral that looks like molten rock cooling in the deep ocean. It is famous for its dark, mottled base (often deep purple, charcoal, or forest green) punctuated by “eyes” (corallites) that glow in intense shades of fiery orange, red, or neon yellow. It is a slow-growing masterpiece that adds a rugged, “volcanic” texture to any reef display.
