The Red and Teal Goniopora (Goniopora sp.), often called a Flowerpot Coral, is a mesmerising LPS specimen that looks like a living bouquet of flowers swaying in the current. This high-contrast morph features long, delicate polyps with light blue stalks, topped with 24 distinct deep crimson to coral-red tentacles surrounding a glowing, icy-teal or cyan central oral eye.
Once considered a difficult coral to keep, modern reef-keeping techniques and captive propagation have made aquacultured varieties much hardier and a true crown jewel for the lower reef zone.
Coloration: Light blue polyp stalks with contrasting electric teal, mint, or cyan center eyes and vibrant red to crimson tentacle tips.
Growth Pattern: Encasing / Massive (grows a dense calcium base while extending long, flowering polyps outward). Sold as a frag on a 0.5 – 1 inch frag plug.
Lighting: Low to Moderate (PAR 75–125).
Water Flow: Low to Medium (Gentle, sweeping current that creates a soft “swaying” motion).
Feeding: Highly recommended; actively captures fine particulate foods, liquid reef nutrition, and micro-plankton.
Aggressiveness: Semi-aggressive (stings neighboring corals that touch its long, extended polyps).
Care Level: Moderate.
