Purple and Blue Yuma Mushroom

The Purple and Blue Yuma Mushroom (Ricordea yuma) is a highly textured, cool-toned beauty that brings a soothing splash of color to the lower regions of a reef tank. Known for the distinctive, bubble-like vesicles covering its entire disc and mouth, this morph features varying shades of deep violet and icy blue, often offset by a contrasting green or yellow oral opening.

While related to the popular Ricordea florida, the yuma species is generally considered a bit more delicate, requiring a more careful touch when acclimating to a new system.

Coloration: Deep purple to indigo base with bright blue, icy-lavender, or purple vesicles (bubbles), typically featuring a contrasting mouth.

Growth Pattern: Solitary to loosely colonial (reproduces by pedal laceration, leaving tiny pieces of its foot behind to grow into new mushrooms). Sold as 1 head on a 0.5 – 1 inch frag plug.

Lighting: Low (PAR 50–100).

Water Flow: Low to Gentle.

Feeding: Photosynthetic, but absorbs dissolved organics and can occasionally be spot-fed very fine coral powder.

Aggressiveness: Semi-aggressive (will sting neighboring corals if they physically touch its disc).

Care Level: Moderate (Requires stable parameters to avoid “Yuma Melt”).
