Overview:
The Green Tort (Acropora tortuosa) is a legendary SPS (Small Polyp Stony) coral in the reefing hobby. Known for its thick, robust branches and intense, “electric” coloration, it is one of the most recognizable and coveted members of the Acropora family. Unlike the thin-branched “bottle brush” corals, the Tort is famous for its “chunky” skeletal growth, which makes it an architectural centerpiece in a mature reef.
Coloration: Typically a deep, vibrant forest or lime green base with striking, often contrasting, metallic-blue or neon-green polyps.
Growth Pattern: Thick-branching/Robust (forms a sturdy, tree-like colony). Sold as a frag on a 0.5 -1 inch frag plug.
Lighting: High (PAR 300–450+).
Water Flow: High (Unpredictable, chaotic flow is critical).
Feeding: Moderate; benefits from amino acids and fine zooplankton.
Aggressiveness: Moderate (does not have long sweepers, but will overgrow neighbors).
