The Orange Leptoseris is a favorite for its “wrinkled” or “maze-like” skeletal structure and its ability to grow in lower light areas of the tank. It is an encrusting coral, meaning it will slowly grow over your rockwork like a vibrant orange carpet. It’s particularly famous for being one of the few “SPS-style” corals that actually prefers the shaded, lower-light parts of the reef.
Coloration: Bright “Blood Orange” base, with glowing yellow “mouths” or centers
Size: 1/2 inch to 1 inch frag (will encrust and plate out over time)
Lighting: Low to Moderate (Par 50–150; they are famous for “glowing” even in the shadows)
Water flow: Moderate (enough to keep the surface clean of detritus)
Feeding: Primarily photosynthetic, but benefits from dosing amino acids or very fine powdered coral foods
Aggressiveness: Peaceful (it is an encruster; it won’t sting neighbors but it will grow over them if given the chance)
Care Level: Easy
