Yellow Eye Favia

The Yellow Eye Favia (Favia sp. / Dipsastraea sp.) is a classic, high-contrast Large Polyp Stony (LPS) coral prized for its dramatic matrix-like pattern and brilliant focal points. This striking morph features a deep, velvety central disc—typically ranging from dark emerald green to chocolate brown or deep violet—punctuated by raised corallite centers (“eyes”) that glow in intense canary yellow, gold, or neon chartreuse.

Coloration: Deep green, dark violet, or chocolate brown base tissue, studded with bright canary-yellow to neon-gold corallite mouths.

Growth Pattern: Encrusting and Brain-like (forms dense, heavy skeletal domes or thick encrusting mats covered in closed, shared-wall corallites).

Lighting: Low to Moderate (PAR 75–125).

Water Flow: Low to Moderate (Gentle, indirect sweeping current).

Feeding: LPS prey-capturing; extends translucent feeding tentacles at night to capture Artemia, mysis shrimp, and fine LPS pellet feeds.

Aggressiveness: Aggressive (extends short but potent sweeper tentacles at night that will sting closely neighboring softies or SPS).

Care Level: Easy to Moderate (Hardy, tolerant of parameter minor fluctuations, and an excellent beginner-friendly LPS).
