Alveopora coral, often called the “Daisy Coral” or “Flowerpot Coral,” is an exquisite Large Polyp Stony (LPS) coral that adds a soft, whimsical motion to the reef.
While it looks remarkably similar to Goniopora, Alveopora is easily distinguished by its 12 tentacles per polyp (as opposed to 24), giving it a more delicate and airy appearance.
This coral is generally considered hardier than its cousins, though it still requires stable conditions to thrive. Its long, flowing polyps extend during the day, creating a lush, garden-like aesthetic that sways beautifully with the current
Coloration: Typically soft shades of mint green, cream, or pastel pink, often with contrasting white or yellow centers
Size: 1–2 inch frag
Lighting: Low to moderate (too much light can cause the polyps to retract)
Water flow: Medium (gentle, indirect flow is necessary to keep polyps extended)
Feeding: Filter feeds on micro-plankton and benefits from supplemental amino acids
Aggressiveness: Peaceful, but needs space to expand without touching neighboring corals
Care Level: Moderate
