Overview:
The Yellow Submarine Favia is an exceptional brain coral morph prized for its striking neon-yellow coloration accented by deep sky blue or teal corallite centers. Originally attributed to Jason Fox or Eye Catching Corals, this encrusting coral grows in compact, tessellated patterns forming a brilliant dome, resembling an electrifying piece of psychedelic art in any reef aquarium.
Colorization:
- Electric lemon-yellow ridges that glow vividly under moderate lighting.
- Contrasting corallite centers in shades of sky blue, teal, or mint green creating eye-catching “eyes.”
Size:
- Sold as a frag ranging between 3/4 to 1 inch in size, suitable for immediate incorporation into display tanks.
Lighting:
- Prefers moderate light levels of 100–200 PAR.
- Maintains best yellow saturation under slightly higher light; insufficient lighting can fade the vivid yellow to dull mustard or tan hues.
Water Flow:
- Thrives with low to medium water flow.
- Requires gentle, indirect currents to keep polyps clean without causing tissue stress.
Feeding:
- Highly recommended to feed this active nocturnal feeder.
- Target feed with mysis shrimp or specialized LPS pellets 2–3 times weekly to promote optimal growth and vibrancy.
Aggressiveness:
- This coral is aggressive and will use long stinging “sweeper” tentacles at night.
- Keep at least 3 to 4 inches away from neighboring corals to prevent conflicts.
Care Level:
- Easy to moderate care required.
- Very hardy once acclimated, but demands stable calcium and alkalinity levels to maintain its dense skeleton.
