The Blue Moon Chalice (Echinophyllia sp. / Echinopora sp., frequently lineaged alongside classic deep-water chalice morphs like the Tyree Blue Chalice) is a mesmerizing Large Polyp Stony (LPS) coral celebrated for its aquatic, lunar appearance. Revered by LPS collectors, this cultivar features a deep cobalt, steel-blue, or metallic indigo coenosteum (tissue base) contrasted by contrasting royal purple or pale lavender margins, punctuated by glowing electric-blue, cyan, or white mouth eyes that resemble glowing full moons on a dark ocean surface.

Coloration: Deep cobalt-blue, midnight indigo, or steel-blue tissue base, accented by bright or yellow oral centers (eyes) and framed by a rich violet-purple growing margin edge.

Growth Pattern: Encrusting and Plating (forms a smooth encrusting mat over rock surfaces before extending delicate, cup-shaped plating scroll ledges as the colony expands). Sold as a frag on a 0.5 – 1 inch frag plug.

Lighting: Low to Moderate (PAR 75–125).

Water Flow: Low to Moderate (Gentle, indirect current to allow full flesh inflation and prevent tissue abrasion).

Feeding: Aggressive nocturnal feeder; extends sticky feeder tentacles at night to capture mysis shrimp, liquid amino acids, rotifers, and meaty LPS pellets.

Aggressiveness: Semi-Aggressive to Aggressive (extends clear sweeper tentacles at night that can sting adjacent SPS, softies, or less aggressive LPS).

Care Level: Moderate (Requires stable calcium/alkalinity parameters, shaded/lower placement, and clear space to accommodate night-time sweeper tentacle expansion).
